The Best Acoustic Guitars for Live Performances

February 19, 2025

Introduction to Live Performance Guitars

I’m writing this blog just after returning from an amazing trip to London. In fact the picture I used for this blog is a picture of the crosswalk from the cover of the Beatles Album Abbey Road. It was so much fun seeing Abbey Road Studios and walking across the crosswalk from the album cover. It left me very inspired to work on my original music and to work on my live performances. I decided it’s time to buy a new acoustic guitar and so this blog is a result of my research. The right guitar can have a profound impact on your sound and stage presence. I’ve been playing out so much that the casing is coming loose from my current guitar. Clearly it’s time for a new one! As I think about what I want out of a new guitar, I need to consider playability (the quality of the tone) and since I play out so much, durability.

Features to Look For

I think it’s important to consider essential features such as body shape, wood type, and pickup systems. A larger body shape, like a dreadnought, typically offers a fuller sound that stands out in a band setting. Also, woods like spruce and mahogany enhance the guitar’s resonance and projection, crucial for performance. Lastly, a reliable pickup system is fundamental for amplifying your sound effectively.
